Brukoff's passion for contemporary architecture is reflected in the way he works with architects. An advocate of the interior – exterior design collaboration, he often works as consultant to architects and frequently uses an architectural consultant on his own large-scale projects. The results are dramatic interiors that seamlessly integrate with the architecture and appear to have been created by the same hand.
In addition to contemporary interior design and architectural lighting design, Brukoff also is a custom furniture designer, art consultant, and photographer. He studied painting, sculpture and design at the Chicago Art Institute.
Brukoff says his early career as a sculptor is reflected in his custom furniture and lighting fixture designs. He works with a variety of craftsmen to create original sofas, tables and cabinets, often using a variety of sculptural materials such as steel, granite and cast glass. "Having an extensive background in designing furniture for manufacture, we are fully conversant with the detailing of upholstery and cabinetry construction," Brukoff says. "Our team of craftsmen is capable of creating interior furnishings of exceptional quality under our design direction, allowing them to integrate seamlessly with the architecture."
Brukoff Design Associates has been acknowledged as one of the top interior design firms on the West Coast. Among the many awards his firm has garnered over the years are the First Place Award from IIDA international Residential Interior Design competition (2000), a Gold Nugget Award in Best Custom Home division (1997), a first-place award in Pool and Patio Design(1992), four AIA Honor Awards of Merit for residential and other designs, and three S.M. Hexter First Place Awards in national design competitions. He also received two grants from the National Endowment for the Arts for a hospice design study.
