This 2500 square foot
penthouse apartment in San Francisco has perhaps the most magnificent
view in the entire city. The residential lighting design and
layout was a major challenge in this interior redesign project.
It was very important to create balanced lighting and color
scheme throughout the space, so as to allow San Francisco’s
nighttime panorama to be clearly observed without annoying
reflections marring the view.
Lighting had to be indirect to minimize reflections. As
color consultants, we felt it necessary to keep the tonality
in the quiet end of the spectrum. There are many delicate
shades of taupe utilized for walls and ceilings, which have
been lighted with recessed halogen spotlights. To counter
the rigid structure of the apartment, we introduced sinuous
surfaces and sculptural furnishings.
